I can connect to the shares using nautilus' "connect to server" option by manually typing them in, and it does connect at SMB2. With the stock smb.conf file, nautilus and smbtree see all of my shares and connect without issue, but only at SMB1 (confirmed by Wireshark). You should point this at your WINS server if you have a multi-subnetted network. It is not dangerous. My Ubuntu box is pointed to the WINS server in smb.conf. When I add the "client max protocol = smb2" line to the [global] section of smb.conf, I don't see any shares through either nautilus or when running smbtree from the command Under SMB1 it gives the correct information in all fields.
